7049 T73511 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu based 7000 series and is a high-strength alloy specifically developed for extrusion products. The T73511 temper includes solution heat treatment, stress relieving (especially after extrusion), and controlled overaging. This temper maintains the high strength of 7049 while significantly improving resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and providing dimensional stability.

In terms of corrosion resistance, 7049 T73511 offers high SCC resistance as part of the T7 temper group. It performs much more reliably than 7075-T6 and provides similar performance to 7040 T7451/T7651. Although its general corrosion resistance is lower than that of 6000 series alloys, it offers more stable and safe performance in aggressive environments. Therefore, surface coating and anodizing are recommended.

Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 7049 T73511 provides very high strength, reaching levels close to 7075. Although there is some reduction in strength compared to T6 tempers, this is compensated by significant improvements in toughness, crack propagation resistance, and damage tolerance. It operates at similar strength levels to alloys such as 7022 and 7010 and is preferred especially in thick-section and critical structural applications.

In terms of machinability, bendability, and weldability, 7049 T73511 offers good machinability and is suitable for machining operations. However, its weldability is limited and it is generally not preferred for welded structures. Its bending capability is low, and forming operations are typically performed before heat treatment. Its use in extrusion form enables the production of long and complex profiles.

Regarding coating ability, vibration behavior, and applications, 7049 alloy is suitable for anodizing and protective coatings. Its decorative surface quality is limited, but performance can be enhanced with functional coatings. Its vibration damping capacity is low. Main application areas include aerospace industry, defense sector, extruded structural profiles, and high load-bearing components. 7049 T73511 is an ideal alloy for applications where high strength and SCC resistance are critical, especially in extrusion products.
