The 1200 O aluminum alloy belongs to the commercially pure aluminum group with a purity higher than 99.0%, and it is particularly known for its excellent corrosion resistance. The O temper indicates that the material is fully annealed and has maximum ductility. This property allows the alloy to be widely used in equipment exposed to chemical environments and outdoor applications. Thanks to its performance in marine atmospheres and humid environments, it is considered a reliable material in many industries.

The mechanical strength of this alloy is significantly lower than that of 2xxx or 7xxx series aluminum alloys. For example, 2024-T3 or 7075-T6 alloys have much higher tensile strength. However, the 1200 O alloy provides excellent ductility and formability. Therefore, it is preferred in applications where formability is more important than strength. Additionally, when compared with 3003 alloy, the 1200 alloy can provide higher electrical conductivity and better corrosion resistance.

In terms of machinability, the 1200 O alloy shows moderate performance; however, due to its high ductility, it may exhibit a tendency to stick during machining operations. On the other hand, its bending and forming capability is very high. It can be easily used in thin sheets, foil production, and deep drawing applications. Because of these characteristics, it is widely used in products such as food packaging, chemical tanks, and decorative panels.

Another important property of this alloy is its good coatability and suitability for surface treatments. Processes such as anodizing, painting, and various coating applications produce very good results. In addition, its ductile behavior under vibration and impact reduces the risk of cracking. Therefore, it can be a reliable option for electronic enclosures and thin sheet applications.

In terms of weldability, the 1200 O alloy performs very well and can easily be joined using TIG or MIG welding methods. This characteristic enables its use in chemical industry equipment, electrical conductor components, food processing equipment, and architectural applications. In general, the 1200 alloy offers lower strength compared to high-strength alloys such as 2024 and 7075, while providing similar ductility and higher purity advantages compared with alloys such as 3003 and 1100.
