6262 T651 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg-Si based 6000 series and is a free-machining alloy developed especially for applications requiring high machinability. Elements such as lead (Pb) and bismuth (Bi) in its composition facilitate chip breaking, providing high efficiency in CNC and automatic lathe operations. The T651 temper refers to solution heat treatment, stress relieving, and artificial aging, which enhances dimensional stability and minimizes internal stresses.

In terms of corrosion resistance, 6262 T651 generally exhibits the typical characteristics of the 6000 series and performs well in atmospheric environments. However, due to the presence of free-machining elements, its corrosion resistance is somewhat lower compared to alloys such as 6061 and 6082. Nevertheless, it is sufficient for most industrial applications and can be improved through anodizing or surface coating.

Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 6262 T651 provides a medium level of strength. While it has properties close to 6061-T6, it does not reach the strength level of 6082-T651 and is significantly lower than 7075-T6. However, it offers sufficient hardness and stability, making it a suitable option for precision-machined components.

In terms of machinability, bendability, and weldability, the strongest advantage of 6262 T651 is its very high machinability. Chip breaking is excellent, tool life is long, and it provides significant advantages in mass production. However, its weldability is limited and it is generally not preferred in welded constructions. Its bending capability is low in the T651 temper; therefore, forming operations should be carried out in softer tempers. It is superior to 6061 and 6082 in machinability and much more advantageous than 7075 in this respect.

Regarding coating ability, vibration behavior, and applications, 6262 alloy is suitable for anodizing and surface coating processes, although its decorative surface quality may not be as good as 6063. Its vibration damping capacity is moderate. Main application areas include automotive, defense industry, hydraulic and pneumatic fittings, bolts and screws, and precision-machined machine parts. 6262 T651 is an ideal solution especially for applications requiring high precision and fast production.
