7010 T7451 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu based 7000 series and is optimized for applications requiring high strength along with improved corrosion resistance and crack resistance. The T7451 temper refers to solution heat treatment, stress relieving, and controlled overaging. Similar to T7351, this temper improves resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) while providing a balanced performance between strength and toughness.
In terms of corrosion resistance, 7010 T7451 offers high performance within the 7000 series. Its SCC resistance is significantly higher than that of 7075-T6 and positions it between T7351 and T7651 in terms of performance balance. However, its general corrosion resistance is lower than that of 6000 series alloys, and protective coatings are recommended in aggressive environments.
Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 7010 T7451 provides very high strength, close to that of 7075. However, there is a slight reduction in strength compared to the T6 temper. In return, toughness, crack propagation resistance, and damage tolerance are significantly improved. Compared to 2024 alloy, it offers higher strength and better structural reliability.
In terms of machinability, bendability, and weldability, 7010 T7451 provides moderate machinability. Machining is possible but not as easy as with 6000 series alloys. Its weldability is limited and it is generally not preferred for welded applications. Its bending capability is low, and forming operations are usually carried out before heat treatment. Similar to 7075 and 7050, it is mainly used in machined and forged products.
Regarding coating ability, vibration behavior, and applications, 7010 alloy is suitable for anodizing and protective coatings. Its decorative surface quality is limited, but performance can be enhanced with functional coatings. Its vibration damping capacity is low. Main application areas include aerospace industry, military applications, high load-bearing structural components, and aircraft fuselage parts. 7010 T7451 is an ideal alloy for applications requiring a balanced performance between strength, SCC resistance, and structural reliability.
