6061-T651 aluminum alloy is one of the most widely used alloys in engineering applications due to its medium-to-high strength, good corrosion resistance, and versatility. This alloy is based on Mg and Si and is strengthened by precipitation hardening. The T651 temper indicates solution heat treatment, stress relief, and artificial aging processes. This ensures optimized dimensional stability and mechanical performance. Its corrosion resistance is quite good under general atmospheric conditions, although not fully superior in marine environments, and can be further improved with surface treatments such as anodizing.

In terms of strength, 6061-T651 has lower values compared to high-strength alloys like 7075 but is significantly stronger than alloys such as 5052 or 3003. This balance makes it ideal for structural applications. Its machinability is very good and provides stable performance in machining processes. Compared to 2024, it offers better corrosion resistance, while being easier to machine and more economical than 7075.

Its bending and forming properties are somewhat limited in the T651 temper but can yield satisfactory results with proper processing. Compared to T4 temper, it offers lower formability but higher strength. In terms of coating capability, it is highly suitable for anodizing and provides excellent surface finish. It is also compatible with painting and other coating processes, making it suitable for both decorative and functional applications.

Its behavior under vibration and dynamic loads is characterized by good damping properties and sufficient fatigue strength. Therefore, it is widely used in automotive, aerospace, and machinery components. Its weldability is significantly better than alloys like 2024 and 7075 and can be easily welded using TIG/MIG methods, although strength reduction after welding should be considered.

Its applications include aerospace structural components, automotive chassis and parts, marine equipment, bicycle frames, machinery parts, and general engineering applications. Compared to 7075, it offers lower strength but better corrosion resistance and weldability; compared to 2024, it provides more balanced performance; and compared to 5052, it offers higher mechanical strength.
