7075-T6510 aluminum alloy is one of the high-strength alloys of the 7xxx series and is a temper condition specifically developed for extruded products. The T6510 temper includes solution heat treatment, stress relieving (by stretching), and artificial aging. This combination reduces internal stresses while providing high mechanical strength and dimensional stability. It is especially preferred for thick sections and parts requiring tight tolerances.
In terms of corrosion resistance, 7075-T6510 alloy naturally provides moderate performance. Due to its copper content, the 7075 series is generally susceptible to corrosion. Therefore, surface protection methods such as anodizing, coating, or painting are recommended, especially in outdoor or humid environments. While 5083 alloy offers superior natural corrosion resistance, 6061 provides a more balanced performance. The 2024 alloy, similar to 7075, generally requires protective coatings.
Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 7075-T6510 has very high tensile and yield strength and is among the highest strength aluminum alloys. Compared to 6061-T6, it provides significantly higher strength. When compared to 2024-T351, it generally has higher tensile strength, although 2024 may outperform it in fatigue resistance in some cases. The T6510 temper provides strength similar to T6 but with better dimensional stability.
In terms of machinability, bending, and weldability, 7075-T6510 has good machinability and is suitable for machining processes. However, due to its high strength, its bending capability is limited and there is a higher risk of cracking. Therefore, forming operations are usually performed in O or T4 tempers. Weldability is generally poor; in this respect, 6061 is much more advantageous. In terms of coatability, anodizing can be applied, but surface quality may vary depending on copper content.
Regarding vibration behavior and applications, 7075-T6510 is widely used in aerospace, defense, tooling, and precision engineering applications due to its high specific strength and rigidity. Extruded profiles, thick plates, and high load-bearing structural components are typical applications. While 5083 is used in marine applications, 6061 in general engineering, and 2024 in aerospace, 7075-T6510 stands out in applications requiring the highest strength.
