5454 H22 aluminum alloy is a magnesium (Mg) containing alloy belonging to the 5xxx series in a strain-hardened and partially annealed temper condition. This alloy stands out with its high corrosion resistance, good strength, and high-temperature stability. Its ability to retain mechanical properties up to approximately 150°C makes it suitable for elevated temperature applications. It provides reliable performance in seawater, industrial atmospheres, and chemical environments.

In terms of strength, 5454 H22 provides moderate strength and offers a balanced structure between corrosion resistance and strength. Compared to 5052 H32 alloy, it provides similar strength but has advantages in high-temperature performance. When compared to 5083 alloy, it offers lower strength but better high-temperature stability. Compared to 6061-T6 alloy, it has lower strength but significantly better corrosion resistance and weldability.

In terms of machinability, 5454 H22 alloy is moderate; it is not very suitable for machining but can be easily processed in sheet and plate form. Its bending capability is good and it can be formed with low risk of cracking under controlled conditions. The H22 temper provides a balanced structure between strength and ductility. It is suitable for cold forming processes.

In terms of coating capability, 5454 H22 performs well and is suitable for surface treatments such as painting and anodizing. However, in most applications, additional coating is not required due to its natural corrosion resistance. In terms of vibration response, it offers good damping capacity and can be used in environments with dynamic loads.

Its weldability is very high and it can be easily welded using methods such as MIG and TIG. Its performance after welding generally remains good. The 5454 H22 alloy is widely used in applications such as pressure vessels, hot liquid tanks, chemical industry equipment, transport tanks, and marine applications. It stands out especially in applications requiring high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and reliability.
