2024 T351 aluminum alloy is known for its high strength and durability. Belonging to the aluminum-copper alloy class, this alloy is especially preferred for structural components and applications requiring high strength. The cold worked T351 temper provides the alloy with increased toughness. Its light weight, high strength-to-weight ratio, and good machinability make it widely used in the automotive, aerospace, and aviation industries.

The suitability of 2024 T351 alloy for anodizing is limited. The high copper content prevents the formation of a strong oxide layer during the anodizing process. Therefore, the alloy surface cannot be protected by anodizing; instead, other protective coating methods are preferred. Regarding weldability, 2024 T351 alloy requires careful attention during welding due to its high copper content. Cracking risks can be minimized with proper techniques and filler materials, but a careful welding process is necessary.

In terms of bending and forming, 2024 T351 aluminum alloy shows moderate machinability. Its high strength may cause some difficulties in bending processes, but successful bending and forming can be achieved with proper processing techniques. Additionally, this alloy can be used in high-vibration environments. Thanks to its high toughness and elastic modulus, it is safely used in applications such as engine parts and chassis components.

Regarding corrosion resistance, 2024 T351 aluminum alloy shows lower resistance compared to other aluminum alloys due to its high copper content. This may limit its use especially in marine and humid environments. However, corrosion resistance can be improved with suitable coating methods and surface treatments. Advantages of 2024 T351 aluminum alloy include high strength, good machinability, and light weight, while its disadvantages include incompatibility with anodizing, limited corrosion resistance, and welding difficulties.
